Jon Hamm
Jon Hamm, BA '93, stars in AMC's critically acclaimed, award-winning series Mad Men, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a drama. He has appeared on television shows such as The Division and The Unit and in films such as We Were Soldiers and The Day the Earth Stood Still. In 1993 Hamm earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Missouri, where he performed in more than a dozen theater productions and starred in the musicals Assassins and Cabaret.
Offering a wide range of classes — from Beowulf to new media, Mark Twain to Caribbean literature, creative writing to film studies — the MU English Department provides the advantages of a liberal-arts education in the context of a large research university, with faculty who are internationally recognized scholars and creative writers. Begun in 1925 by Professor Donovan Rhynsburger, the MU Department of Theatre boasts faculty who are world renowned in academic research, theater technology/design, writing for performance and teaching.
Russ Mitchell
Russ Mitchell, BJ '82, is the news anchor of The Early Show and the CBS Evening News Sunday edition and is a correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning. He has won an Emmy Award, a National Association of Black Journalists Award, a Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award and the 2007 Missouri Honor Medal. He earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism in 1982.
The Missouri School of Journalism is the world's first journalism school, established in 1908 by Walter Williams. Since its inception the Missouri Method, which gives students practical hands-on training in newsrooms and a strategic-communication agency, has made MU graduates among the best prepared to work in the business.
Jennifer Ouellette
Jennifer Ouellette, BS '94, is a designer whose hats and accessories have been featured in the editorial fashion pages of Vogue, W, In Style, Glamour, Domino, Modern Bride and Harper's Bazaar as well as in the New York Times and on NBC's Today show. Her clients include Hollywood stars such as Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwen Stefani and Angelina Jolie. Ouellette earned a bachelor's degree in 1994 from MU's College of Human and Environmental Science, where she majored in Textile and Apparel Management.
The Department of Textile and Apparel Management is an award-winning program with internationally recognized faculty and is a national leader in the global fashion industry. Students are prepared for careers in fields such as merchandising, buying, technical design, retail management and e-retailing.
