Marilyn Rantz

Title: Professor of nursing

Background: Rantz holds the named position of University Hospital Professor of Nursing, and has an appointment as professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. She formerly served as administrator of Lakeland Nursing Home of Walworth County in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Her doctoral education focused on long-term care policy, health policy, public program evaluation and chronically confused nursing home residents. Publications include more than 100 articles and book chapters on topics including quality improvement, health policy, quality measurement, nursing management, productivity analysis and care of the elderly. She has written several books including three that earned AJN Book of the Year awards in 1991, 1998 and 2001. Recent texts, Using MDS Quality Indicators to Improve Outcomes and Outcome-Based Quality Improvement for Long-Term Care: Using MDS, Process, and Outcome Measures, help quality improvement teams in nursing homes evaluate and improve care. A book to help consumers, The New Nursing Homes: A 20-minute Way to Find Great Long Term Care, was published in 2001 by Fairview Press.
